We have ample expertise on development and aid work research in the developing world, having both worked and lived in Latin America, Africa and South East Asia. Our approach to international development is aligned with our philosophy of acknowledging that the beneficiaries of any development initiative are the experts. External proposals for the prosperity of disadvantaged populations need to be based on extensive consultation, be aligned to specific cultural contexts and, above all, empower local leadership and guarantee the sustainability of the initiative.
We have worked and volunteered for community-based organisations in NSW. We understand the challenges involved in developing communities and the complexities of different stakeholders’ interests. We have worked with community networks and local government on issues around multiculturalism, social housing, the arts, education and early childhood.
Some of our research has revolved specifically around environmental management and governance. We have investigated issues in different areas of Australia around water management, mining and the underground. We are genuinely concerned about the environmental welfare of our planet and about the policies that affect it.
We have expertise in the area of natural disasters having worked for projects surrounding both the environmental and social effects of catastrophes, and the mechanisms that can be set in place to mitigate them and to instil resilience in the victims.
We have ample experience in research that revolves around formal and informal education from the initial levels to higher and adult education. We understand education in its most ample sense, as the combination of formal and informal transmission and progression of knowledge, skills, and abilities from the young to the old, necessary for the flourishing of society and its individuals.
We have particular expertise in issues surrounding children both in the developing world and Australia. We have worked on projects involving schooling, child labour, child marriage, children’s rights and child protection. We have extensive expertise in the area of early childhood and have worked on projects all over the world covering parenting, nutrition, early childhood in war zones, refugee settlements and multicultural settings.
We have conducted extensive research on topics around multicultural Australia, migration policies, multicultural education and language diversity. Being migrants ourselves we understand first-hand the motivations, challenges and opportunities surrounding migrant communities. We also volunteer for organisations that foster multicultural integration.
We have worked on research projects and consultations that revolve around urban development and the implication of government policies on city dwellers. In particular, we have contributed to research involving the disbanding of public housing compounds and the relocation of residents. We understand the complexities involved at various levels: government, neighbourhood and familial.
